OVEREEM! 14:1? No Problem!

In very recent headlines, Alistair Overeem has been the subject of the ever-growing controversy concerning Performance-Enhancing Drugs in combat sports. Alistair failed a recent surprise drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and results revealed Alistair was quite a ‘questionable’ bit over the legal limit for testosterone. The ratio in Alistair’s body tested at 14:1, well over the generous 6:1 spotted ratio. Usually, this kind of infraction warrants a year of suspension from competition in the states, but with the situation this is causing for the matchmakers at the UFC, he might become THE exception to the rule.

Alistair is set to meet Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 for the Heavyweight Title, and because of the way the card is stacked with the top Heavyweight contenders, any change in the card would throw the entire division off balance. In other words, Dana’s back is against the wall, and nothing makes that more obvious than the fact that the UFC has already filed a request for a new license for Overeem. And to top it all off, there seems to be a strange attitude among many media personalities have regarding what will eventually happen at the April 24th NSAC hearing, where all decisions will be announced. David ‘The Voice’ Schiavello was on Inside MMA actually questioning The Commissions validity and jurisdiction to test Overeem so far outside of the fight. Bas Rutten recently dropped a bomb on Twitter saying, ” I hear the Overeem vs. Junior Dos Santos fight may still be happening. JDS wrote a long letter and statement to the public saying that it would be unfair for him to fight Overeem after his failing of the test. If that doesn’t convince you then read any of Overeems’ recent post test interviews which he only speaks of how confident he is about his odds of beating JDS.

On April 12th, AS had this to say to Cage Insider ” I am bigger, stronger, I am better in the stand up, and I am better on the ground”. He doesn’t sound too worried about the test, does he? We all await the decision from The Commission, and The Head of the Sport regarding on or off. My money is definitely on this fight happening, failed test or not.
