With the passing of national weed day aka ‘4/20’ I can speak for most rap blogs, and say we’re bombarded with terrible songs about weed, molly, and other drugs….On 4/20 the songs are ONLY about weed, so I took time to compile a list of songs some released on 4/20 some weren’t but they’re just good songs inspired by Mary Jane.
Kicking off the list, he is fast becoming one of my favorite artists in music today, Domo Genesis with his tough verse and hook on Tyler the Creator’s – Rusty. Domo has been on a roll dropping consistent verse after verse, him being a stated pothead he released the Remy Banks assisted ‘Drugs Got Me Spiritual.’

You know I had to select a track from burgeoning NY artist Lochnes, he dropped his Lamborghini Dreams mixtape, and stand out track ‘New Pope.’ The track is the anthem for that cool dude who rides around the city smoking in the car, acting like you’re Beans from Belly.

Tyler the Creator’s Wolf had tons of stand out verses, but none weed related until the third verse of Jamba. At first you thought he was becoming a real pot head until Jasper’s appearance, spark up and laugh.

Single taken from Cudder’s recent Indicud which leaked two weeks early, though this Just What I Am has been out for a solid 8 months. That still doesn’t take away from the magic Cudi x King Chip created in the lab. Every time these two come together to create I’ve never heard a weak effort from the two, this track is no different, what makes this single pop is CuDi’s hook that sounds like the way aliens communicated on Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Cudi rapping is always welcomed.

One of the biggest disappointments musically would have to be the Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y‘s “Live In Concert” EP. The EP which was released on 4/20 was a highly anticipated followup to Wiz & Curren$y’s classic mixtape How Fly. Originally I knew it would never capture the hunger, and passion the original had and in fans eyes would fall short. But me being the sucker for sequels I wanted to hear the follow up, the production was phenomenal, but lyrically it was just weak, and subject matter was basically ‘look how rich we got since the last time you heard us together.’ Yes guys we’re proud how far you’ve taken this independent grind, but we also like good hip hop. One stand out was Wiz x Curren$y’s Toast it has beautiful instrumentation and lyrics to match.
