As I’ve been saying for the past 9 months, 3-d printers are going to ruin our economy. Yeah it’s currently being hella cute now, printing up stylish sugar cubes, and now physical embodiments of Joy Division album covers. Artist Michael Zoellner brought the ingenious art piece to life tracing the waves by hand. Humor me for a moment, and imagine once 3-D printers are able to print clothes, shoes, it can currently print guns (You can currently download specs for guns thanks to PIRATE BAY.) What is this access going to do to our economy? We barely buy albums today, due to a complex combo of high-speed internet, artists offering free music, and the fact that a lot of albums just flat out don’t deserve $10. The music industry has taken a hit in a still trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of various avenues (*COUGH COUGH VEVO.) Though it’s cool, I think this trend of 3-D printers has us on a crash course to a dismantling of the system.
