Tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada Sergio Martinez went against underdog middleweight champion Cesar Chavez Jr. for one of the most exciting boxing matches in recent history. Early in the twelve round fight Martinez dominated counter punching, and upper-cutting Chavez. Sergio controlled the right up until the 11th and 12th round where both fighters let it all “Hang Loose.” Visibly it looked like Chavez started gaining confidence in his ability in the 11th, and he even scored a knockdown in the 12th. Though fight went the distance and Martinez won with an unanimous decision gaining the middleweight belt. The fight was a great and concluded with an STRONG finish, I swear the live audience, and the ones at home erupted when Chavez scored that 12th round knockdown. It wasn’t enough to knockout the strong willed Sergio, but it definitely earned his respect. Talks of a rematch are already in the works.
