RAZ DOES IT AGAIN WITH CAKEY POCKET$ [ALBUM REVIEW.]

Rap phenom Raz Fresco dropped another entry, in his already classic catalogue of mixtapes (Laced Up, MCMXCV) with the new release of “Cakey Pocket$“. With this project, we get an insight into the mindset of a young man who KNOWS whole-heartedly that success is imminent for him and his BakersClub crew! “Team WORK Make the dreamwork!” is yelled during the bass heavy “VILLAINRY.”

My personal favorite track on the album has to be Home Alone. Psychedelic organs play underneath hard hitting snares. All the while Bakers Club affliate P. Blackk drops some problematic lyrics, spitting fire like:

Not YET/ So instead cuffin’ a brother she called NEXT/ Now she all VEXED/ Told that my word is BOND/ She all TEXT/ And I couldn’t understand THAT/ So I had to scram JACK/

And to let you know how really banging Home Alone is, the beat contains one of the most obscure samples,  Alan Tew – The Detectives. After doing research and listening to the source song it made me personally go “Damn how’d he pull that sound out of sample?” It goes to show you that inspiration can come from any material source. Raz keeps total creative control on this project, crafting the beats for all 18 tracks on the project.

What truly inspired me about this project as a whole, was Raz’ vision, he doesn’t see what Bakers Club is today, he sees what it’s going to be. He sees a takeover with all things Bakers Club, and with this acquisition will come massive wealth, fame, and notoriety. He sees all of this, and is taking the steps to accomplish these much lofty goals at the tender young age of 17. This dude is definitely going to be a problem for the game.
