Penguin and Random House have announced a merger that will create the world’s largest publisher – dubbed Penguin Random House – and will account for approximately 25% of the world’s books. The merger can be attributed to the online presence of Amazon whose price-cutting strategies has laid a dark cloth over multiple-industries. Most people in the industry feel that it is high time for publishing houses to join forces. With this merger, Penguin-Random House will help resist the downward spiral of pricing that Amazon has released on other publishers.
