NEXT TO BLOW! – That Kid Era!

I caught up with rapper and Westchester’s own That Kid Era! and what struck me was how down-to-earth and humble Era was. He doesn’t have the fake bravado of your run-of-the-mill rapper, he’s just a cool dude that knows that anything worth having is worth working hard for. A message that is usually not conveyed much in hip hop or for that matter, in general. During our interview, which lasted about an hour, we touched on a variety of topics ranging from the typical independent grind (which Era describes as being “independent”), his personal take on what “independence” means to him, and why its proving successful for him and That Kid Era! brand.

That Kid Era’s music can best be described as a perfect blend between lyricism, passion, and delivery. His cadence is smooth, and his ability to turn wordplay on his head will make you rewind his verses, listen to his latest track KMA to see what I’m talking about.

We talked of the short-lived beef he & his team of producers had with Mac Miller, about what guys like Joey Bada$$ are doing for hip hop, and the LOVE & HATE of social media.  Towards the end of the interview, we began to delve into the discussion of what personal success means, and That Kid Era’s message resonated that even though you may feel like you have plateaued, and that you’re just doing the day-to-day mundane things, that there is always a breakthrough at the end of the tunnel.
