It seems Jon Favreau’s latest indie effort is a mixture of art imitating life as he plays a successful Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) who suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman). The film seems to be tapping into themes of artists having creative freedom, maybe I’m reading too far into this but this indie project seems to be a breath of fresh air for him as a filmmaker. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen—and zest for life and love. The film was written and directed by Jon and also features cameos from Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt and John Leguizamo. The film is hitting the indie circuit with a premiere later this month at Tribeca, but will be screening nation wide on May 9th, 2014.
