India’s largest cinema chain, Reliance MediaWorks, has handed over $200 million to DreamWorks Studio a reliable source stated , stating it was in accordance to 2009 agreement. Reliance MediaWorks will continue to distribute DreamWorks-produced films in India, and will finance the studio and has received $325 million as the first half of the agreement. Reliance Entertainment (part of the Reliance ADA group) provided the first transaction that helped the production of Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse” and “The Help” was released last year.
DreamWorks will continue to produce three to five films per year, not the four to six that was negotiated earlier. The 2009 changes in the investment was finally decided on after months of talks, preceding the original $650 million due to the problems in securing large-scale with the banks. Currently, the companies have stated in a press release that the 2009 $350 million investment was the first stage. The Walt Disney Company continues to distribute and market DreamWorks films under their five-year distribution agreement for up to six films a year.
