The Cuban government announced earlier today that Cubans will no longer need to apply for an exit visa to leave the island, eliminating the major impediment for those attempting to travel overseas for more than 50 years. A notice published in Communist Party newspaper Granma said that as of Jan. 14, Cubans will only have to show their passport and a visa from the country they are traveling to. It is just one of Raul Castro’s promised five year reforms, and comes behind the legalization of home and car sales and a big increase in the number of Cubans owning private businesses.
