A Documentary About Larry Clark’s Drama “KIDS” Being Made

Kids-1995In the 90’s nothing shook up the indie scene and got people talking about children more than the relentlessly honest film ‘KIDS.’ A drama about an amoral, HIV-positive skateboarder whom sets out to deflower as many virgins as possible while a local girl who contracted his disease tries to save his next target from her same fate. The film which takes place over one summer day in the lives of many teenagers across hot ass New York is a game-changer, and is considered a film classic. Not for just being an all around great film, but for it’s ripples it’s had on pop culture, from ushering in SUPREME clothing as a juggernaut, giving countless stars their first roles.  (*Rosario Dawson,  Chloë Sevigny, Harmony Korine)

The film is being helmed by  Harold Hunter an actor with a short appearance he’s the guy who shows the viewer and other kids ‘How To Roll A Blunt’ during the film. Harris’ upcoming doc “The Kids” wants to tell the true story of first time actors and bystanders from the movie.

Harris says he’s been slowly compiling interviews with key “Kids” participants, including Chloë Sevigny, Caroline Rothstein and screenwriter Larry Clark.

“After the movie happened, people who weren’t in it —but who were a part of the group— had gripes with this intrusion into our lives and people making money off it, while we’re still struggling, starving, and finding our way through life, alone. That’s not to say [the filmmakers] did us wrong on that, because those of us who were in the movie chose to be. But there was a lot of dysfunction both prior to and after the film’s release—people going from being in this little subculture, dealing with these complex situations in a sleepless city, to being a part of this new pop culture, with all that dysfunction and trauma squared,” he explained. “It’s still a very sensitive topic—there’s a lot of resentment. So this documentary is quite a responsibility on me, you know what I mean? I had to do a lot of reflecting on myself first to get to the point of even doing this interview, 20 years later.”

No word when the film will be released, but when it does, I’m sure it’ll make waves the same as it’s source material which was released almost 20 years ago next year.
