On a hill in an upscale Chino Hills, Ca. neighborhood, sits a seven-bedroom home which has been dubbed the “maternity mansion,” charging women from China high prices to give their babies birth in the United States, thereby buying them American citizenship, according to neighbors who want the operation shut down. A website AsiamChild.com, a Chinese language website advertising the American birth, matches up with the Chino Hills address. Packages on the site range from $5,000 to $15,000 and state that the expenditure is a worthwhile investment to be able to have an “American” baby. A neighborhood group was formed in response to the “maternity mansion” who dubbed themselves Not in Chino Hills, and their spokeswoman, Rossana Mitchell, a 22-year resident of the city, stated that
“we are trying to get out that we are not going to condone this behavior and allow this type of business to come into our family-oriented community.”
