New York Jets Welcome Tim Tebow.

The New York Jets held a press conference this morning to announce that “Tebowmania” would be moving to New York. With the team stating that Tim Tebow would be back-up quarterback for last seasons’ underwhelming Mark Sanchez.  Tim wanted to let it be known that he wasn’t coming into Sanchez’ house to run things, change things or to shake things up. He intentions were made clear by stating “They want me to come in and compete, and get better as a quarterback and help the team any way possible.”

With the overall performance from Mark Sanchez last season, many fans felt he sorely failed at his job, when compared to his first two seasons. You weren’t able to see the growth his third year  as the Jets finished out the season (8-8) eluded a spot in the playoffs, something that hadn’t happened since 2008. The Jets getting Tim Tebow is a power move, lighting some respective “fire” under Sanchez’s respective “ass”.

Fallout from the disastrous season triggered pointing fingers amongst players. The most infamous statement made as Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson called Sanchez “pampered”. In an interview that aired mid -January on Showtime’s Inside the NFL, Tomlinson says “[Sanchez is] a bit pampered, because he has no competition.” Jets must have taken this criticism into consideration, it appears, by working so hard to get Tebow on the team.

Welcome Home.

Since the big move ,news has been heavy on the usage of Tim Tebow’s name, that even John Mara couldn’t stop himself from making a little crack about the Jets’ big move.

From Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York:

While meeting with reporters at the NFL meetings in Palm Beach, Mara was asked by reporters ‘If New York is big enough for the Giants AND “Tebowmania”?

“I don’t know, but the David Carr press conference will be tomorrow, too,” Mara joked to reporters according to tweet by ESPN’s Rachel Nichols.

The Giants signed their backup quarterback Carr shortly after Tebow was traded to the Jets. Of course, unlike Tebow, who will be welcomed with a press conference by the Jets on Monday, Carr’s signing was announced on a story by the Giants’ team website.

Whatever comes from this Jets trade , we know that the Jets will be winning in their offseason, and hopefully it carries into the new season.
