Sharmeka Moffitt, the 20-year-old from Winnsboro, Louisiana, who allegedly was set on fire by three hood-wearing men in a racially motivated attack, took an unexpected turn today when police announced at a press conference that they now believe that Sharmeka injured herself. According to Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas, on Moffitt confessed to setting herself on fire after scrawling “KKK” and “n*gg*r” on the hood of her Buick LaCrosse with toothpaste. The State Police Crime Lab matched Moffitt’s fingerprints and DNA to a cigarette lighter.
