The deadly untreatable germ by most antibiotics, has taken the life of a seventh person at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Maryland. The Washington Post reported the death on Friday, while NIH officials told the paper that the boy had come to the research hospital in Bethesda in April and had been treated for complications from a bone marrow transplant when he contracted the bug. He became the 19th patient at the hospital to contract the antibiotic-resistant strain or KPC, or Kiebsiella pneumoniae. The outbreak stemmed from a single patient carrying the superbug who arrived at the hospital last summer. The Post reported the boy, who hailed from Minnesota, marked the first new infection of this superbug at NIH since January.
