The Coachella Music Festival, is an annual three-day music and arts festival, and has been promoted by Goldenvoice (a subsidiary of AEG Live) since November 5,1993. The first festival was rocked out by Pearl Jam, and performed before almost 25,ooo fans on the lawn of Indio’s Empire Polo Club, which had never hosted a music festival. The band’s management had chosen this site as part of a boycott of Ticketmaster, as well as the Southern California auditoriums Ticketmaster controlled, and the event established the new venue as viable for large-scale rock events. Fast forward to 2012. Sam Torres, an Indio, Calif. city council member proposed a 5-to-10 percent admission tax on the festival which would have equalled to about $36 per ticket and cost Goldenvoice between $4 million and $6 million. But the Goldenvoice president threatened to cancel the 2014 event and move to a new location for 2015. On Thursday, Torres decided to rescind his call for his tax bid, because of the potential economic damage if the festival relocated. Coachella sold $47 million in tickets this year with tickets going on sale January 13,2012 at 10am and being completely sold out by 1pm PST.
