Denis Leary is back in business with FX, but this time he’s trading in his firefighter gear for a microphone as he plays an aging rocker desperate for his last chance at rock ‘n’ roll fame in the comedy series “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.”
The cable channel ordered a 10-episode first season of the comedy . The show centers on an aging rock star named Johnny Rock (Leary), who is looking for his second chance for fame 25 years after he messed up his first shot at stardom by succumbing to booze and drugs — and sleeping with his bandmate’s (John Corbett) wife. And his other bandmate’s fiancé. The show picks up as Leary is attempting to reunite his band, The Heathens.
“25 years later the sex might be harder to find, the drugs might be Luvox and Crestor and Cialis — but rock ‘n roll will never die. It just has a bigger prostate,” says the logline.
Leary created the series and wrote the first episode, he’ll serve as executive producer along with writing partner Jim Serpico.
This is Leary’s second series for FX. He co-created and starred in the drama “Rescue Me,” which ran for seven seasons and featured Leary as a troubled firefighter in post 9/11 New York City.
Leary’s series will premiere on FX in 2015.
