EXCLUSIVE: Faux Society Presents…..Director Gil Kenan.

When I first prepped for my interview with director Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember, and forthcoming A Giant), I was nervous, not only because I look up to his work and everything he has accomplished at such a young age, but the work he’s created actually has had a profound impact on me. I was only in high school when I saw Monster House, arriving at the theater with the notion that it was just another animated film. I was so wrong. I fell in love with the content, the look, and the texture of the film. The camera work in the movie really pushed anything that I had ever seen before in animation (or live action) as well. I went home from there to research this ‘Gil Kenan’, and I had not realized how young he was, and I was intrigued that he was working with the BIG BOYS on this film (Steven Spielberg-EP and Robert Zemeckis-EP). When I read about him,( I saw myself), a young artist who puts his all into whatever he does. His work is personal and he’s EXTREMELY passionate about all of his projects.   During the interview, Gil was very open with me, as we covered a variety of topics.  He spoke of growing up in San Fernando Valley, CA., his high school years, to his time experimenting with art during his college years, and his love for film school while attending UCLA.

I’m thankful that a director of his stature discussed his process for creating, and went in-depth while sharing how he had arrived at this place in his professional life. As a fledgling director myself, I picked up on the gems Gil dropped, and here I am bringing the interview to you, hoping you’ll do the same.

P.S. Gil also gave Faux Society an exclusive by discussing a ‘morsel’ of what he is currently in France creating.
