The 2013 Sundance Film Festival occurs for one week every January, premiering the biggest features & shorts from around the world while also competing for lucrative distribution deals. This year the short artist Flying Lotus and director Kahlil Joseph took home GOLD winning the Short Film Special Jury Award for “Until the Quiet Comes”, a short we actually listed in our top ten best music videos of 2012. The film was shot in the Nickerson Gardens housing projects in Watts, Los Angeles, and deals with themes of violence, camaraderie and spirituality through the lens of magical realism.
