Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s continue their promotional run for upcoming LP ‘Mosquito‘ performing their choir assisted single ‘Sacrilege‘ and the performance is absolutely electric! Front woman Karen O, touched on influences for the 4th album from the group citing Kanye West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ as a huge influence in the latest cover story for SPIN:
“Can we get much higher?” Her face is overtaken by serene awe. “It’s so soulful, and I love soul,” she says. “The vibe lifted me out of the mundane and took me somewhere else, man. And it stuck out like a sore thumb. It’s a work of art. It’s a record. It was a moment of clarity. His signal was crystal clear and we all got it. One of the last records that made me feel that way was Under Construction by Missy Elliott.”
The way Kanye constructed his album even influenced how the YYY’s created this effort, as they imported collaborators to work underneath the same building. Similar to how Kanye flew all of his collaborators to Hawaii.
Goes to show you that great music transcends, regardless of the genre.
