Tiger Wins: Ties Nicklaus’ PGA Tour Record.

In Dublin, Ohio, Tiger Woods had his best showing at the Memorial. Hitting nearly each and every shot almost perfectly, while engaging the gallery with one last shot over the last hour, left everyone in a frenzy- even Jack Nicklaus-with the shot that Tiger (and all other golfers, amateurs and professionals) will probably watch on reels for years to come.  Oh yeah, it was also Tiger’s 73rd win, tying Nicklaus for career PGA Tour victories, and at ‘Jack’s tournament’, to boot.  With this win, Tiger is poised to resume his race to surpass Nicklaus’ 18 major wins, and at 14 wins himself, 4 more is within reach.

Woods sunk a chip-in that even he called one of the toughest shots he ever made, and he birdied three of his last four holes to close with a 5-under 67 and took a 2 shot-deficit to a 2 shot victory, underneath Rory Sabbatini. Behind a 2-putt birdie on the 15th, Woods hit 8-iron over the green at the par-3 16th and into an undoable lie, buried in deep rough with the pin 50 feet away along a ridge. Woods took two steps and watched with the world as the ball fell into the right side of the cup.  Jack Nicklaus summed up the shot saying, “The most unbelievable, gutsy shot I’ve ever seen.”
