Writers block usually gives a writer nothing, but in the case of this novelist (Paul Dano), when inspiration does come, he truly begins to live. Unable to come up with any ideas, a fledgling novelist decides to create a beautiful woman, on paper, from scratch. One who is happy, and living her life to the fullest. As he digs deep to create her, he begins to fall in love with her– on paper. This begins to worry him, and he discusses this with his psychiatrist who assures him that he’s okay and to enjoy the breakthrough in his writing. All goes well, until he walks into his apartment one day and there–she–is. “Ruby Sparks”. Yes, the woman he created with his mind and a typewriter (yes, typewriter), stands before him in the flesh. He’s very sure he is losing his mind until he realizes that he has conjured up the woman of his dreams, and decides to ride this out to wherever this will take him.
