It was mid-November when NBC premiered their spring 2012 tv line-up and “Community” was no where to be seen. Fans were disappointed to say the least, the cult fan base that Community has accumulated over it’s three seasons, came out of the works, and showed face. They tweeted:
- “I’m devastated that NBC isn’t going to keep playing Community! I think Community has had a much stronger season than The Office, and Community is consistently funnier! I really, really hope NBC doesn’t cancel the show for good!” — scubagurl7
- “WHAAAAT?! Are they serious? Keep Community, NBC!” — TheEnchantedOne
- “As soon as I have to, I will be sending paintballs, Norwegian troll dolls, baby wipes, blankets, or whatever I have to. Community does not deserve to be canceled!” — supertramp
- “Oh no! I love Community. This sucks.” — pattyg7787
Check out the protest Christmas-themed song flipped with Community character names inserted. Hilarious!
All the fans hard work was met with GREAT success and the show was slated to air March 15th, 2012. It returned to high ratings, and has consistently held it’s niche ratings @ (4.89 million viewers ).Along with the high ratings, the show has remained consistently funny. Things are looking up for many a Community fan like myself. .The show is in the running for a season renewal and(*Six Seasons & A Movie) has been the mantra for any true fan.
That was until last weeks news broke that there was an ongoing fued between show member Chevy Chase, and creator Dan Harmon. The Chase-Harmon beef came to light when an expletive-laced voicemail from Chase—in which the actor addressed being dissed by Harmon in front of everybody (Harmon said he was getting back at him for walking off the set of the third-season finale)—hit the Internet, prompting plenty of Chase fans to pile on Harmon via Twitter.
Dan Harmon released an apology via his tumblr to ‘kiss and make up’ saying: (an excerpt)
I’m really not supposed to be commenting on the situation, which I think is great advice, because anything I say will extend the story’s life and cause more fans discomfort. But as a guy who blogs or tweets every time he wipes his butt, hugs his cat or hurts his girlfriend, it’s conspicuously weird of me to say nothing at all about the giant fart with my name on it that you’ve been inhaling. It feels dishonest not to acknowledge it, it feels rude to the caring fans of the show, people who are tweeting me their concerns that I’ve jeopardized something they fight to protect, those are the sentiments that are [rightfully] the most painful because every choice I make, I try to make for the good of the show, and the show is not an expression of my ego or entitlement, it’s an expression of my desire to make strangers happy…..
I agree with [the fans] that the show is what’s important. It’s why I get mad when I get mad. It’s why I’m happy when I’m happy. I will always do everything I can to make sure we get our six seasons and a movie. I’m just really sorry that I’m so damn bad at that job in so many specific ways, and I promise you that every time I screw up at it, I try to get better.
It was a heartfelt apology from a man who only wants to tell a story about six friends in a community college study group.
