Rick Ross – God Forgives I Don’t Album [ALBUM REVIEW.]

With each project, Rick Ross has continuously set the bar high for himself. By layering over another, Rose’ gets better with each and every release. His last released (which is arguably the best project of 2012) street album, Rich Forever, laid all the ground work, and all the tension for the release of “God Forgives – I Don’t” (we’ll call it GFID from now on, got it? GOOD!) The album has the same layout of the short, nearly flawless “Teflon Don.” The first four tracks brings you into Ross’ world of lavish extravagance, along with his musical excellence, as he regales you with Pirates as he spits.:

Panamera abortions, marijuana imported
Dreams of getting cream and never to be extorted
Seen so many things, be preposterous not to record it

With the future classic “3 Kings”, he’s done what many have only dreamed of, with the bringing together of Dr.Dre and Jay -Z TOGETHER on one track. Jay closes out the song with one of the strongest verses in hip hop this year, but these caliber of verses is such a commonplace occurrence on this album. That’s how HIGH the bar has been set for ROSS! And after the confessional track Ashamed rolls into the “epicly” EPIC Maybach IV, with Ne-Yo supplying one of the best hooks from the singer in years. After that track we’re blessed with “Sixteen”, as Ross vents the frustrations of being limited by ‘sixteen bars’ to express your feelings. One of the many complaints of song writing, but one of the albums BRIGHTEST points, comes to a head as Mr. 3 Stacks or Andre 3000 (to those who don’t know) comes in and raps, making everyone in the office ask, “DAMN! Dre when the album dropping?”

As we push forward through the album ,Hold Me Back and 911 work exactly the same as “MC Hammer” and “BMF”;  in the sense that you feel like you heard the same beat, different hook, TWICE. As we continue, the overall theme is the same, it’s LOVE, and totally geared lyrically, towards the women. With the Omarion assisted Ice Cold, Touch N’ You featuring USHER, and the ‘rarely singing’ these days, Drake on Diced Pineapples. It wraps up smoothly with Stalley rapping on Ten Jesus Pieces:

Man I swear Big did it the best, I mean
Nas did it fresh, Jay did it fresh, I mean
Ye did it fresh, but man Big did it the best

Cuts from the street album, Rich Forever (which may have gone unheard by POSSIBLY six people in the ENTIRE universe) with Triple Beam Dreams, along with the title track Rich Forever, is a great body of work, though there may be moments where it feels a little repetitive, it’s still pushing MUSIC, not just the art of Hip Hop – forward.

CONGRATS to Rick Ross for debuting #1 at the top of the charts, with the selling of 218,000 unit. This marks the fourth Billboard #1 of his career.

Below is the celebration for the release of the future classic GFID.
