Man Dies After Ingesting Roaches and Worms

Edward Archbold, along with 20 to 30 contestants participated in Friday night’s “Midnight Madness” event at Ben Siegel Reptiles in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The participants’ goal was to consume as many insects and worms as they could with the prize being an $850 python. Archbold swallowed roach after roach and worm after worm, while the store didn’t know the exact number of insects devoured by Archbold, the store owner told CNN affiliate WPLG that he was “the life of the party.” Not long after the contest was over, Archbold began to feel bad and then began to vomit, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, when a friend called for medical help, Archbold then called 911 himself, stated the stores Facebook post. Eventually, Archbold fell to the ground outside of the store, and an ambulance then took him to the North Broward Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No other contestants fell ill, the sheriff’s office stated. The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and are awaiting test results to determine the cause of his death.
