Unless you’ve been under a rock than you’re more than aware that Iron Man 3 hit theaters this past Friday and boy did it blast off, shattering nearly all box office records as it opened to $175.3 million from 4,253 theaters in North America. It holds the No. 2 debut of all time behind last years Marvel group picture The Avengers ($207.4 million), also starring Downey as Iron Man.
The film which stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau and Sir Ben Kingsley, is the third installment co-written and directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) has received glowing reviews getting a coveted ‘A’ CinemaScore from audiences, fueling word of mouth. To put into perspective how much Iron Man 3 did in the states, it accumulated 84% of the domestic box office this weekend leaving the rest of the releases fighting over scraps.
