Mark Wahlberg is back with Contraband, an action heist thriller that delves into the underworld of customs smuggling. This is a solid movie, starring a really strong supporting cast (Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Foster) that push helps drive the movie forward in really unfamiliar territory. It’s the story of a guy Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg), a second generation customs smuggler, who has gotten out of the business. When his brother-in-law comes up short on an import, his life is threatened, and Chris’ wife begs him to save her brother’s life. (Gotta love those in-laws, huh?)
The movie REALLY picks up once Mark decides he’s getting “BACK IN THE GAME!” The action, suspense, and the spiral of terrible consequences. The action scenes are explosive, my only complaint is that Mark and all of his associates seem to have a shroud of magical protection that kept them from getting hit with the blankets of bullets that were clearly aimed in their exact direction. Other than that, the movie will definitely entertain you, and make you have empathy for the characters. I liked it, and Faux Society sponsors it for “DVD OF THE WEEK!”
