XXL Finalizes their Freshman Class 2013 & We Analysis IT!

This year’s XXL issue has selected a new class of freshmen; Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Dizzy Wright, Angel Haze, Trinidad James, Logic, Kirko Bangz, Travi$ Scott, and Chief Keef.  A lot of heat up controversies arises on this year’s pick. How did they pick who makes the list? 

First thing off, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Souls made some noise last year in the West Coast underground, which pretty much got the publications attention.  Notice these three emcees with the dollar sign in their names have been shortlisted as well.  Each of which stood some act and gain fame in their makings last year.  Trinidad Jame$ simply hit with “All Gold Everything” and got the buzz around his name while Joey Bada$$ did the same thing too with his “1999” mixtape. On the other hand, Travi$ Scott made his fame last year.

Logic, the Maryland rapper, got into the list because of his original mix tape Undeniable.  While Kirko Bangz hustle the scene in Houston Texas where he earned his modest success Billboard hot 100 with his “Drank in my Cup.” Angel Haze got her mix tapes Reservation and Classick carried her among the top 10 list of freshmen. Dizzy work through his exposure in Vegas, his indie label Funk Volume, with a quite few and his impressive LP SmokeOut Conversations.

Action Bronson released his mix tapes like “Blue Chips” with Party Supplies and “Rare Chandeliers” all got high praises with fellow rappers.  The most controversial of all is the inclusion of Chief Keef whose picture is like a sticker on the side of the cover photo but was named 11th freshman of the year.  He has his own style as his mix tape composition “Finally Rich” and “I Don’t Like” were widely accepted in the society of rappers.

If you are not that keen, they have chosen 11 freshmen list of 2013 instead of the usual 10. XXL have not made a statement yet as to why for they have just recently release the cover photo but not that whole issue yet.  That is for you to find out. What are your thoughts on the freshman?

I tend to lean towards this list being less controversial than years before, people almost rioted when MGK made the list last year…But dude can spit!
