Cloud Atlas is a sweeping epic adventure drama film written and directed by Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. It’s an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution. I don’t want to give too much away, though the first hour of the film feels some-what gimmicky, as we try to sort out what’s going on in each story, and how everyone is connected to one another. The acting in the film is as good as acting gets, it’s the USA dream team of actors. The film emphasizes these connections further by cutting one story to another at opportune moment, creating a feeling of reoccurrence. Once you get into Cloud Atlas you have fun trying to point out which actor is portraying who in each story. Though film is the kind that if you don’t like the tone after the first 20 minutes, it’s best to just get up and go into another film because it continues with a run time of almost 3 hours. The pay off of the whole investment was well worth it, it brings light on what we as humans go through in experiences of love, morals, and our inner demons. Cloud Atlas stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, and is in theaters NOW, check it out and tell us your thoughts on the picture.
