Adel Daoud, an 18 year old Chicago Hillside surbanite, attempted to blow up a jeep in front of a Chicago bar on Friday night, has been arrested and charged in a federal undercover sting, authorities said. Daoud, who had apparently planned for months for the attack and had even prayed with a man who was an undercover agent, before attempting to set off the bomb. Daoud parked a green Jeep Cherokee in front of the bar Friday night, then attempted to detonate a device that he believed to be a bomb as he walked into an alley, court documents allege. The bomb, which was inert and had been a plant by the Feds, did not explode and Daoud was arrested on the spot. Daoud has been charged with attempting to damage and destroy a building by means of an explosive. Daoud acted alone, but often talked of trying to “brainwash” others and at one point allegedly enlisted a partner, who later changed his mind, according to an FBI affidavit.
