THE BOURNE LEGACY [MOVIE REVIEW.]

“THERE WAS NEVER JUST ONE!” that is something we’re constantly reminded of throughout the new installment of the Bourne franchise. Though it’s a movie that doesn’t contain Matt Damon, donning his look of “kill mode.” It does take place in the same world where Bourne’s actions have dramatic effects, and a unimaginable blowback that the lead characters in this film have to deal with. Jeremy Renner takes the leading role as Aaron Cross another guy who gets the badass “BOURNE” treatment, and can’t be killed! (*Sidenote if anyone finds out who’s doing these BOURNE transformations on the low holla at me!)

The film has the pacing, and introspection of a book, I mean that as a compliment, in books characters look at themselves, and you sometimes hear their thoughts, and they question themselves like “Is what I’m doing right?” The brilliant Rachel Weisz portrays Dr. Marta Shearing to be honest she was not annoying even when the character was being STUPID annoying, has subtle moments where you can read her thoughts on her face. I don’t really remember many action movies, where they hire REALLY solid actors, and let them act, with great story, and the rest takes cares of itself.

I’ve been a fan of the first three, and out of all of them this was definitely the one with the least action, with that being said the story had to take center stage if the film was to ever have a chance at working. From a directing standpoint Tony Gilroy ditched the shaky style established by Paul Greengrass with the Bourne Supremacy & Ultimatum. He smoothly whips the camera through scenes, and relys on quick cuts, and gliding cranes as we follow Aaron Cross as he does feats nor mere man could do. The film really sells that this new leading man is an elite killing machine that’s been backed into a corner.

Check it out if the Bourne films are you cup of tea. If you don’t know anything about the films I wouldn’t recommend going into this one blind. You’ll be pissed off and walk out muttering to yourself “What the hell is a treadstone? And why was Edward Norton so mad about it?”
