Lombardozzi & Harper Hittin’ Homers.

No sooner did the Washington Nationals rookie Steve Lombardozzi  begin celebrating his first career home run, in the first inning of the game Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, when another Washington Nationals rookie, Bryce Harper, slammed one over the line right behind him. This was the first time that two rookies have hit back-to-back home runs to lead off a game since the year, 1900, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Pitcher Tommy Hanson’s 2-1 fastball was low and inside, and Lombardozzi swung right through it, sending it against the back wall of the bullpen in right field. Hanson’s fastball to Harper was high and across the plate, and Harper swung with all his might, sending that ball into the first rows of the second deck in right field. Two pitches on two home runs from two of this seasons’ most promising rookies. Take me out to the ballgame!
