5 Things We Learned From Pusha T’s MNIMN Album Stream.

my name is my name featuresUnless you’ve been underneath a rock or just plain busy smoking crack, everyone should be made aware that as of yesterday, Pusha T’s debut album My Name Is My Name (MNIMN) became available for stream as of yesterday on his MYSPACE. (SIDE NOTE: It feels as funny typing it as it does you reading it, I bet you’re thinking ‘what is this 2006? GTFOH!’ Yeah it’s on his Myspace bro, chill.)  ‘Legendary’ is one word you can use to describe it because it is a well thought out capsule of music, showcasing the truly downplayed and underrated artistry of Pusha-Push!

So like all massive things, we made a list breaking down the five things we learned from Pusha-T, My Name Is My Name available everywhere on October 8th! Click here to pre-order Pusha T’s “MNIMN” on iTunes for $7.99!

      1. Kanye doesn’t steal the spotlight on the album.
Pusha, being right hand and enforcer for Kanye West in the rap game, has been effective ever since Kanye’s Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy era, where Pusha rocked the salmon suit and added some Virginia ‘streetness’ to  Kanye’s crooning and endearing effort ‘Runaway.’ Pusha has taken the backseat for the G.O.O.D. head honcho countless times, putting his album on hold to contribute to last year’s Cruel Summer compilation, laying verses on most of the albums standouts. (Mercy, New God Flow, & I Don’t Like REMIX.) He gave up time, and showed he was undoubtedly loyal to the brand. Now, Kanye quietly contributes major efforts, and it shows how well of a crafted album this is out of the gate producing the opening track ‘King Push’ along with Joaquin Phoenix. (LOL. did you see that doc he did? Still one of my fav actors.) Mr. West also handles production on three other tracks (Numbers on the Boards, Who I Am, & PAIN.) Then lends back up vocal to anthem track ‘Hold On’.
      2. It’s taken more than a year but Pusha’s T’s album is actually dropping.
MNIMN has been long forth-coming and gestating, with delay after delay, we’ve seen tons of release dates come and go.  (“I swear on my mama it’s dropping THIS July 16th.”….Okay Pusha never said that, but I did get in a heated argument, and dude yelled that at me at the top of his lungs). As of today we’ve heard the album, while also enjoy watching Kanye rant about shirts with ‘numbers on the back’ at Pusha’s album listening party. Come this October 8th, Pusha’s debut effort IS dropping.
      3. He has an actual album inside of him!
One of the main arguments I’ve had with people who are hip hop heads when Pusha’s name is brought up is he’s only a ‘crack’ rapper. Weaving tale after tale of slanging that WHITE, and yes that is very true because as you go through Pusha’s catalog you will  find mostly songs regaling those stories, but this album proves he’s so much more than that. It proves he’s a talented rapper with depth,  insecurities, and worries. This album humanizes Pusha to first time listeners.
      4. Pusha channels other rappers on his album.
On radio friendly single “Let Me Love You.” featuring Kelly Rowland, it’s evident that Pusha is channeling Ma$e, and he’s truly successful as he flips the script with his flawless vintage delivery.
      5. Pharrell retains his credit as coldest hook man in hip hop.
Pusha gets help from a man who is so busy, that if he told you ‘Sorry, can’t come to your Breaking Bad finale party, just realized I gotta tour with some French Robots.’ You wouldn’t even be offended. Pusha grabs his talents for what might be the best song Pusha has ever created in my opinion, a topic that isn’t dealt or talked about much in hip hop. Unless it’s in a seriously negative light, not in a humanized, or realistic approach that the album closer S.N.I.T.C.H. (Sorry N***a I’m Trynna Come Home) paints it as.
