Banksy’s Pomp and The Queen’s Circumstance.

Street artist Banksy, supposedly strikes again, by having stencilled a picture of Queen Elizabeth as Ziggy Stardust in honor of the Diamond Jubilee, the 60th anniversary of QE’s reign. The infamous graffiti expert who has been given credit for the painting, depicts the queen in all her pomp and circumstance, and sporting a red lightning bolt across her face, resembling the creation made famous by David Bowie. The image appeared on a wall in Bristol (which is rumored to be the artist’s home city) and which previously held a Banksy canvas, showing a boy with a paper bag in his hands creeping up behind a sniper. The canvas was covered in black paint and graffiiti tags last October, and in February, another work, which appeared to show David Cameron and Boris Johnson as rioters, appeared on the wall.

A piece of street art purporting to be by Banksy, appeared on a London street in May. The canvas shows a young boy of Asian origin hunched over a sewing machine, while he uses Union Jack bunting as a nod to the British celebrations. It has been debated as to whether it is a comment on the Olympic celebrations, The Diamond Jubilee, and maybe even the riots of last year.
